Always check the oil pipes when the turbo is replaced; carbon or debris from the old failure may remain inside. A blocked drain pipe forces oil past the turbo seals and gives blue exhaust smoke. The feed pipe is thin and pressurised, with banjo or union fittings and washers. The drain pipe is wider and laid on a slope so oil can flow freely; its flange bolts under the turbo and its lower end to the return port on the block or sump. The support clips must be in place so the pipes do not crack from vibration. A large share of turbo failures come straight from lubrication problems.

Fitting
