Engine oil cooler plate 2486A991 is an aftermarket part for the Perkins engine.

The oil cooler plate is a plate-type heat exchanger in which engine oil gives up heat to the coolant; it sits under the block side cover. Oil flows inside the plate and coolant around it. When it cracks internally, oil gets into the coolant or coolant into the oil: an oily film appears in the radiator, emulsion in the oil and coolant is lost. The photos show the plate with its connection holes. The cooler limits oil temperature under heavy load and in hot weather; overheated oil thins and protects the bearings less well. Scale and deposits on the outside of the plate reduce heat transfer, so the coolant must be renewed regularly.

Fitting

Never reuse the gaskets and O-rings; the cover and block faces must be clean and flat. After starting, check around the cover and the coolant level. Clean the cover and block passages before fitting the plate. The coolant mixture must follow the JCB recommendation.
