For the JCB Dieselmax 444 engine: cylinder head (bare) 320/02680, an aftermarket part.

The Dieselmax 444 uses one head for all four cylinders. When it is replaced, the valve clearances and injector protrusion are set again and the parts moved from the old head are checked. Head bolts and gasket are renewed every time the head comes off. Replacing a head is a big job, so the cooling system, thermostat and radiator are checked as well to remove the cause. If the cause is not found, a new head can fail the same way. The valve seats and guides in the head keep the valves sealing and running true. The injector bores are sealed with injector washers.

Fitting

Clean the block face and check it for flatness; fit the head with a new gasket and new bolts, tightened in the JCB sequence, torque and angle. Then adjust the valves and change the coolant and engine oil.
