Cylinder head assembly 320/09246 is a genuine JCB part for the JCB Dieselmax 444 engine.

The cylinder head closes the top of the combustion chambers and carries the valves, valve springs, injector bores and intake and exhaust ports. Overheating warps the head or cracks it between the valve seats: coolant is lost, oil appears in it and compression leaks. A warped head can be skimmed, a cracked one is replaced. Replacing a head is a big job, so the cooling system, thermostat and radiator are checked as well to remove the cause. If the cause is not found, a new head can fail the same way. The valve seats and guides in the head keep the valves sealing and running true. The injector bores are sealed with injector washers.
