Crankshaft gear 320/03132 is a genuine JCB part for the JCB Dieselmax 444 engine.

The crankshaft gear drives the gear train at the front of the engine: the camshaft, fuel pump and oil pump take their drive from it. Timing marks make sure the train is assembled correctly. A broken or worn tooth causes gear whine, timing slip and at worst valves striking the pistons. On the Dieselmax the gear train sits at the front behind the timing cover and runs on gears rather than a belt, so there is no periodic timing belt change.
