Thermostat, right-angle housing 02/203186 is an aftermarket part for the Perkins engine. The card also lists 4133L509.

The thermostat keeps coolant out of the radiator while the engine is cold so it warms up quickly; at working temperature it opens and sends coolant to the radiator. A thermostat stuck open slows warm-up, raises fuel use and weakens cab heating, while one stuck shut causes overheating. In the housing version the thermostat is replaced as one unit together with its outlet and flange. The thermostat has a wax element that expands at a set temperature and opens the valve. The opening temperature is set for the engine. The thermostat is supplied new together with its housing. The housing is a metal casting.

Fitting

Drain the coolant, remove the old housing and clean the mating face. Fit the new housing with a new gasket or O-ring and clamp the hoses. Fill and bleed the system, warm the engine up and check the thermostat opens. The coolant mixture must follow the JCB recommendation.
