Piston ring set 02/802472 Isuzu standard, aftermarket

Piston ring set 02/802472, standard is an aftermarket part for the Isuzu 4JJ engine.

The ring set for one piston has three rings: the top compression ring, the second ring and the oil control ring. The compression rings stop combustion gas escaping into the crankcase, and the oil ring scrapes excess oil off the bore. Worn rings show as blue smoke, oil consumption, low compression and blow-by from the breather. After a ring change, watch the oil consumption and exhaust smoke during the first working hours. The top face of the compression rings is marked; a ring fitted upside down pumps oil into the combustion chamber. A ring set is for one piston; an engine needs one set per cylinder. The set is supplied new. Keep the rings in their pack.

Fitting

The rings must move freely in their grooves, so clean the grooves of old carbon. Push the piston into the bore with a ring compressor. When changing rings, also check the head gasket and big-end bearings. Measure the ring gap in the bore and stagger the gaps around the piston. Fit the rings with ring pliers.
