For the Caterpillar machines: a/C receiver-drier 186-6189, an aftermarket part.

This part is the receiver-drier of the A/C circuit; according to the product card it is listed for Caterpillar machines under the number 186-6189. The drier traps moisture and dirt in the refrigerant, since moisture forms acid in the circuit that ruins the compressor and valves. Its moisture capacity is limited, so the drier is renewed every time the circuit is opened, especially when the compressor is replaced. Remove the new drier's caps just before fitting, since an open drier soaks up moisture from the air. The drier is usually fitted in the high-pressure line after the condenser; the arrow on it shows the refrigerant flow direction, and it is connected accordingly. After fitting, vacuum the system, charge it with the specified amounts of refrigerant and oil and measure the pressures.

Fitting

After fitting, secure the harness with ties so it does not touch moving parts or hot surfaces, since a chafed wire loses its insulation and causes a short circuit. The part comes new; before fitting, compare its part number, voltage and connection type with the old part. After the change, check the function and the warnings on the instrument panel; the connections must be clean, dry and tight.
