Check the hoses at every service by squeezing them by hand: a softened, swollen, cracked or hardened hose should be replaced before it bursts. When one hose is replaced, the neighbouring hoses are checked too, since they are the same age and one bursting can mean the others will soon follow.

Fitting

Before changing a coolant hose, let the engine cool and drain the coolant; for air hoses, stop the engine. Slacken the old clamps and remove the hose without straining the pipes. Clean the pipe ends, push the new hose fully home and tighten new clamps positioned behind the beads. Fill and bleed the cooling system, run the engine and check for leaks, then retighten the clamps after the first warm-up. After air hoses are fitted, check the joints for air leaks with the engine running.
