Track rod 145481 is an aftermarket part for the backhoe loaders with Carraro axles.

Steering play may not come from the track rod alone: check the knuckle trunnions, the steering cylinder pin joints and the axle mountings as well. After the rod is changed, equalise the front tyre pressures and drive on a straight road to check that the steering sits centred and the machine does not pull. Work carefully on rough ground to avoid striking the rod. All the steering system grease nipples are filled at the same service.

Fitting

Before fitting the rod, clean the taper holes in the knuckles and check them for ovality, since a ball joint will not seat tightly in a worn hole. After torquing the nuts, fit new split pins, lock the adjusting nuts and check that both rod ends lie in the same plane. Recheck the nut torque after the first hours of work. When choosing a rod, compare it with the old one for length, thread direction and ball joint tapers, since a rod of a different length can make it impossible to set the toe-in. A bent rod is replaced, not straightened, because straightened steel is weakened and can bend again under load. Watch tyre wear in the first weeks after the change.
