Kingpin, upper 5137239 New Holland, aftermarket

For the New Holland machines: kingpin, upper 5137239, an aftermarket part. This is the upper kingpin of the knuckle.

The kingpin is chosen by part number for the axle type and position (upper or lower), as upper and lower pins can differ in length and flange shape. When replacing it, check the bearings or bushes, seals and shims, since a worn bearing will soon give play with a new pin too. Kingpins are made of hardened steel with working surfaces precisely machined to suit their bearings.

Fitting

For the change, remove the wheel and support the knuckle. Fit the new kingpin with its bearings and seals, tighten the bolts to the specified torque and set the bearing preload with shims to the service manual. After assembly, grease the nipples and turn the steering fully both ways to check it does not bind. Kingpin play is checked with the machine raised by rocking the wheel up and down and side to side; noticeable play shows wear of the pin or its bearings. Grease the kingpins at every service until clean grease comes out. If the dust seals are damaged, water and sand will soon ruin a new pin and bearings too.
