For the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders: rear lever gaiter, large 400/X5528, a genuine JCB part. This is the large gaiter of the backhoe control lever; the card also lists 332/F1130.

The gaiter is chosen by part number for the lever position and size: the large rear (backhoe) gaiter, the small front (loader) gaiter and the gear lever gaiter are all different. The gaiter is usually held to the lever and floor by a clamping ring or frame, which must also be sound. Some gaiters are supplied as a set with their ring. Before fitting the gaiter, clean the dirt off the lever linkages and valve spools beneath it. A well-fitting gaiter also extends the life of the valve spools beneath the levers. Gaiter rubber is affected by oil.

Fitting

Remove the old gaiter and ring and clean the seating surfaces. Slide the new gaiter over the lever without twisting, seat its lower edge on the floor and its upper edge on the lever, and secure it with the ring. After fitting, move the lever fully in every direction and check that the gaiter is not stretched and does not pop off. Fit the gaiter with the lever in neutral, seating its edges evenly. After fitting, the part is checked again after a few hours of work.
