Control lever rod end 913/02902 JCB 3CX/4CX, aftermarket

Control lever rod end 913/02902 is an aftermarket part for the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders.

The rod end is the jointed fitting at the end of the rod linking a control lever in the cab to the control valve spool. It may be a ball joint or a clevis (pinned) type and screws onto the rod to set its length. A worn rod end causes play in the controls: the valve responds late to the lever, precise digging and loading become harder and the lever's neutral position may drift. Some rod ends have right-hand and some left-hand (reverse) threads, so the rod length can be adjusted by turning the rod. When rod end dust boots tear, sand gets in and wears the joint quickly, so the boots are checked at every service. Joints are greased or oiled at the intervals the machine maker recommends.

Fitting

Before the change, release the hydraulic pressure and mark the lever's neutral position. Slacken the locknut and count the turns as the old rod end is unscrewed. Screw the new one on the same number of turns and tighten the locknut. After assembly, check the lever's neutral position and full strokes and make sure the spool opens and closes fully.
