For the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders: backhoe control lever, left 40303981, a genuine JCB part. According to the product card, this is the left backhoe control lever.

The lever is chosen by part number for its position (left or right, front or rear) and function, and the second number on the card is a version of the same lever. When it is replaced, the pivot bushes, rod ends and gaiter are checked too, and the knob and buttons can be moved across from the old lever. When the pivot bushes wear, the lever wobbles sideways and control precision drops, so the bushes are renewed when the lever is replaced. If there is a safety lock holding the lever in neutral, check that it works properly too. After the lever is fitted, the linkage pin retainers are put back in place.

Fitting

Before the change, lower the attachments, stop the engine and release the hydraulic pressure. Mark and disconnect the lever's linkages and remove the pivot bolt. Fit the new lever, reconnect the linkages and tighten the pivot bolt to the specified torque. After assembly, check that the lever moves freely in every direction, returns to neutral when released and works its function in the right direction.
