Brake piston 6193401M1 is an aftermarket part for the Terex and Massey Ferguson backhoe loaders.

In axles with oil-immersed brakes, the brake piston is pushed forward by pressure from the master cylinder and clamps the pack of friction and steel plates. The piston is a large ring and is sealed on its inner and outer edges by O-rings or seals. When the pedal is released, return springs pull the piston back. If the piston surface is scored or the seals fail, brake fluid passes into the axle oil: the reservoir level falls, the axle oil level rises, braking weakens and the pedal goes soft. The O-rings and seals used with the piston must be made of a material that suits the fluid used in the brake system. When the axle oil is changed, its colour is noted too, as milky or thin oil can point to brake fluid getting past the piston seals.

Fitting
