Parking brake pad set 998/11001 is an aftermarket part for the JCB machines. This is a set of parking brake pads.

On many backhoe loaders and other machines, the parking brake is a disc on the transmission output shaft with a caliper whose pads clamp the disc. When the handbrake lever is pulled, a cable or lever mechanism squeezes the pads onto the disc and holds the machine parked. As the pads wear, the lever travels further, the machine holds less well on a slope and the brake needs frequent adjustment. Driving with the handbrake on soon burns the pads and leaves blue marks on the disc. The parking brake disc and caliper are not protected from dirt, so the pads wear faster on muddy sites and the handbrake is checked more often on such machines. Oil or grease on the pads also reduces holding force; oily pads are replaced rather than cleaned, and the leak that let the oil in is repaired.
