Tractors and machines of the same model may use different brake cylinders depending on the year and specification. They differ in piston diameter, the position of the mounting holes, port threads and push rod shape. The numbers on the card, the number on the old cylinder and the machine serial number are therefore checked together. A wrongly chosen cylinder may still fit, but it will change pedal travel and braking force. After any brake repair, the fluid level and pedal height are watched for a few days; a falling level or a pedal that sinks again shows that a leak remains elsewhere. Cylinders for the left and right sides of one axle are often renewed together so that the braking force stays equal on both sides.

Fitting

Before replacing the cylinder, park the machine on level ground and chock the wheels. Catch the fluid in a container when undoing the unions and plug the open ends. After fitting, bleed the system, check for leaks and test the brakes at low speed.
