Brake hoses and pipes carry the pressure from the master cylinder to the brake pistons in the axles. Steel pipes run between fixed points, while flexible hoses link the moving parts of the axle and chassis. The inner layer of a hose ages over time and can swell under pressure, making the pedal soft and braking late. If the outer surface is cracked, chafed or damp around a union, the hose is replaced at once; steel pipes are checked for corrosion and dents. When brake lines leak, the nearby hoses and harnesses are inspected too, as the leaking fluid gradually attacks rubber and plastic. The lines are routed clear of moving parts, the exhaust and sharp edges, which is what the original clip positions are for.

Fitting
