The mudguard bracket (tube bracket) and its clamps connect the front mudguard to the axle hub or the cab and carry the mudguard's weight and vibration. As the wheels turn and the axle oscillates, the bracket works under constantly changing load. Over time the fixing holes become oval, welds crack or the tube bends, after which the mudguard vibrates, rubs on the tyre or breaks off. The threads in the hub that the bracket fixes to are kept clean.
