Belt 390-0532 CAT, aftermarket

For the Caterpillar backhoe loaders: belt 390-0532, an aftermarket part. According to the product card, the belt is for the Caterpillar 428F.

The belt is chosen by profile (number of PK ribs or V section) and length; a marking such as 8PK1955 means a poly-V belt with 8 ribs and a length of 1955 mm. A belt of the wrong length cannot be tensioned correctly by the tensioner. When the belt is replaced, the tensioner and idler pulleys, their bearings and the pulley grooves are checked too, and on twin-belt drives the belts are always changed as a pair. The belt must be kept away from oil and fuel, as oil softens the rubber and causes slipping.

Fitting

Before fitting the belt, stop the engine, release the tensioner and note the belt's routing. Seat the new belt in the correct grooves of all the pulleys, then release the tensioner or set the tension to the maker's value. Check the belt again after running the engine briefly.
