Kingposts vary by machine model and swing system and are chosen by part number. When the kingpost is replaced, the swing pins, their bushes and thrust washers are checked, as a new kingpost on worn pins soon develops play. After assembly the swing joint is greased and the boom tried through its full swing angle. The swing pin nipples are greased every day. The kingpost pin eyes are measured, as oval eyes leave play even with new pins and bushes. Fine cracks at the welds show as rust marks under the paint, so the kingpost is inspected after cleaning.

Fitting
