A tyre inflation compressor is a portable air pump for adjusting tyre pressures on site and inflating tyres after minor repairs. It usually runs from the machine's battery and has a pressure gauge. Correct tyre pressure matters for the stability, traction and tyre life of machines: low pressure leads to sidewall cracks, high pressure to loss of traction and damage. Twin-piston compressors inflate large tyres faster. The compressor's air hose and tyre connector are kept clean, as a leaking connection slows inflation and makes the gauge read wrongly. The compressor is stored in a dry, dust-free place. During use, the hose and cable are kept from being crushed or run over.
