Lock washer 980/84672 is an aftermarket part for the JCB JS crawler excavators. According to the product card, this part is a lock washer.

Lock washers and locking plates stop a bolt or nut turning under vibration. On tab washers, one tab is bent over the edge of the part and another against a flat of the bolt head or nut, locking the joint mechanically. A locking plate holds several bolts at once. A joint left without its lock washer can soon loosen, especially on rotating parts.

Fitting

Before fitting the washer, clean the seating faces and remove burrs and old seal remains. Fit the washer the right way round and tighten the joint to the specified torque. Copper and aluminium sealing washers that have been removed are not reused; new ones are fitted.
