Swing gearbox 333/P1196 is an aftermarket part for the JCB JS crawler excavators.
The swing gearbox is the planetary unit that turns the upper structure of a crawler excavator on its undercarriage. It reduces the high speed of the hydraulic swing motor through two planetary stages and multiplies the torque; its output pinion meshes with the internal teeth of the slew ring to turn the upper structure. The swing brake usually works together with the motor and holds the upper structure when the machine stops. When the gearbox wears, a whine or knock is heard during swing, the upper structure jerks as it stops and the pinion and ring teeth wear unevenly. Oil loss or water ingress soon destroys the planet bearings.

Compatibility
According to sources, 333/P1196 is the swing gearbox of JCB JS200, JS210, JS220 and JS230 excavators; the 20/925315 swing motor is used on the JS200 and JS220. The catalogue also has the aftermarket version of this part. Other parts are in Reduction gears.
Fitting
The gearbox may be supplied filled or empty; before fitting, fill it with the specified gear oil according to the maker's instructions and check the level. Clean the mounting faces and tighten the bolts to the specified torque in a cross pattern. Cap the hydraulic motor hoses and fittings while they are disconnected, since dirt in the system shortens the life of the new unit too. Fill the motor case with clean hydraulic oil through the drain line and make the first start at low engine speed.
