Steering knuckle, left 212.06.702.34 is an aftermarket part for the machines with Dana (Spicer) axles. This part is for the left-hand side.
The steering knuckle at the end of a steered axle carries the wheel hub and planetary gearbox and pivots on kingpins or trunnions. It has the arm to which the track rod and steering cylinder attach, passing the steering movement to the wheel. Heavy loads and impacts can wear the trunnion bearing seats, track rod bores and seal faces, and a severe impact can crack or bend the knuckle. A damaged knuckle causes steering play, tyre wear and oil leaks.

Compatibility
According to the product card, 212.06.702.34 (603696) is the left-hand knuckle of a Dana axle; fit is confirmed by the axle type and machine serial number. Other parts are in Reduction gears.
Fitting
For the change, remove the wheel, planetary gearbox and axle shaft and drain the axle oil. Fit the knuckle with its trunnion bearings and shims, tighten the trunnion bolts to torque and set the preload by measurement. Connect the track rod and steering cylinder, renew the seals, top up the axle oil and check the wheel alignment. The knuckle comes new; its seats and bores are cleaned and checked before assembly. The knuckle is chosen by axle type and side; left and right housings are mirror images and must not be mixed up. After assembly, turn the steering to full lock to check that the stops work correctly.
