For the JCB Loadall telehandlers: LSD differential casing 458/M2842, an aftermarket part. This part is the empty casing of a limited-slip differential (LSD).

In limited-slip differentials (LSD) the friction discs help pass torque to the wheel with grip when the other wheel spins, improving traction in mud and on slippery ground. As the discs wear this effect fades and the machine spins its wheels easily. LSD axles use the additive axle oil the maker recommends, since unsuitable oil makes the discs judder and chatter. Mark the parts' positions when dismantling.

Fitting

The differential is changed with the axle opened; because it affects the crown wheel and pinion setting, the work is done with measurements to the service manual. Set the differential bearing preload and the crown wheel backlash, check the contact pattern and torque and lock the crown wheel bolts. Renew the seals and gaskets and fill the axle with the specified oil type and quantity. The part comes new. Before the axle is reassembled, lubricate all parts with clean axle oil; refit the shims in their original positions or select them again by measurement.
