Propshaft universal joint 914/45301 JCB 3CX/4CX, aftermarket

Propshaft universal joint 914/45301 is an aftermarket part for the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders. This joint is used in the propshaft.

Universal joint wear is checked with the machine stopped by turning the shaft back and forth by hand: play or notchiness in the joint shows that the needle bearings are worn. Rusty caps and reddish dust are signs of running without grease. The joints on one shaft are usually replaced together. The other joint on the same shaft may be just as worn, so check it too.

According to sources, 914/45301 and 914/30901 are numbers of the 34.9 x 126 mm universal joint used in JCB 3CX and 4CX propshafts; the product card gives it as the rear propshaft joint. Other parts are in Axle shafts, propshafts and U-joints.

Fitting

Press out the old joint with a suitable press or tool after removing the circlips; do not hammer the yoke hard. Press the new joint's caps in carefully so the needles do not shift, and fit new circlips. After assembly, grease the joint and check that it moves freely without binding. The joint comes new; leave the caps in place until fitting so the needles do not fall out. Fit the joint with the grease nipple facing the inside of the yoke.
