Breather PP9161044 is an aftermarket part for the Terex backhoe loaders.

A breather equalises with the atmosphere the pressure in a gearbox, axle or hydraulic tank that changes as it heats and cools, while keeping dust and water out. As the housing warms, the air inside expands; if the breather is blocked, pressure rises and oil is pushed out under the seals. On cooling, the vacuum formed inside draws dirt and moisture in past the seal lips. A blocked breather is therefore one of the most common reasons why apparently sound seals leak. The breather is chosen by part number according to its thread and type, and at services its outside is cleaned and it is checked for blockage.

Fitting

Clean around the old breather before removing it so that no dirt falls into the hole. Start the new breather by hand with a suitable thread sealant and tighten it without overdoing it. After fitting, check that it passes air freely; on machines working in mud it is important that the breather does not end up under water.
