Transmission oils meet different standards depending on their use. TO-4 covers oils with defined friction properties for powershift transmissions and final drives; UTTO covers oils for tractor-type systems where the transmission, hydraulics and oil-immersed brakes share a common sump; API GL-4 and GL-5 show the load-carrying level of gear oils. These standards are not interchangeable. The operator manual states which unit needs which oil, and on one machine the gearbox and axles may need different oils. When the oil is changed, the unit's breather is checked as well, since a blocked breather raises the pressure of the warm oil and forces it out past the seals.

Use

Drain the oil on level ground, preferably while warm. Clean the plugs and refit them with new seals, and fill the unit to the specified level. After a short period of work, check the level and for leaks again.
