Antifreeze stops the coolant from freezing or boiling and protects the internal surfaces of the engine block, radiator, water pump and hoses from corrosion and scale. Ethylene glycol antifreezes are classed by the type of corrosion inhibitors they contain: G11 fluids are silicate-containing hybrids, while G12 and G12+ use organic acid (carboxylate) technology and usually allow a longer change interval. Colour helps to tell them apart, but the type itself is checked from the information on the pack. Coolant is added only from clean containers through a clean funnel, and an opened pack is closed tightly. Antifreeze is poisonous and must be kept out of reach of children and animals, and any spills are cleaned up at once.

Use

Fill the antifreeze into the expansion tank, with the engine cold, to between the marks. If the system was drained, warm the engine until the thermostat opens, bleed out the air and check the level again once it has cooled.
