This pilot valve is operated by a pedal and, according to sources, is part of the hydraulic circuit of the JCB JS160W wheeled excavator. The pilot pressure produced according to the pedal position moves the spool of the related function. The pedal valve lets the operator control an extra function by foot while keeping both hands on the levers. A worn pedal valve makes the function jerky or slow to respond, lets it continue after the pedal is released and leaks oil under the pedal. When changing it, label the pilot hoses and release the pressure in the pilot circuit. The genuine JCB valve comes with settings that suit the machine's pilot circuit.
