Hydraulic cylinder seal kit 991/00105 is an aftermarket part for the JCB machines. The card also lists 332/C9373.

A hydraulic cylinder seal kit contains all the dynamic and static seals of the cylinder: the piston seal and wear bands, the rod seal, the wiper, O-rings and back-up rings. The kit size is set by the rod and bore diameters; the two numbers in the product name (for example 50*80) are the rod and bore diameters in millimetres. The seals are made from compounds that withstand oil, heat and pressure peaks. Fit the kit after the cylinder has been stripped and cleaned and the rod, piston and bore measured. Replacing a single seal is rarely a lasting fix, because the other seals have worked just as long and are worn in a similar way. The kit is chosen by part number, and the seal sizes must match the cylinder's rod and bore diameters. The kit is new.

Fitting

Remove the old seals from their grooves with a blunt tool and clean the grooves. Fit the new ones the right way round without twisting and oil them with clean hydraulic oil; ease the piston and rod carefully into the barrel.

On JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders with a gear pump, the working pressure of the hydraulic system is limited by the main relief valve in the loader valve: 236–241 bar on machines up to serial number 964124 and 248–252 bar on machines from serial number 964125 (standard and high-pressure hydraulics). It is checked with a 0–400 bar pressure gauge connected to the loader valve test point, with the engine at 1500 rev/min and the oil warmed to 50 °C.
