Seals harden, wear or get cut by dirt over time, so all of them are renewed together when a cylinder is opened. Check the rod and barrel surfaces before fitting, since a scored rod or barrel soon ruins new seals too. The kit is made up to the seal sizes used in JCB backhoe loader cylinders. This kit is the other option for the same number, with the same seal sizes and profiles. For a seal change the cylinder is fully stripped, the parts cleaned and the rod, piston and barrel measured for wear; changing only the seals without replacing worn parts is not a lasting fix. The kit is supplied new. The kit contents are defined by the part number. The kit is chosen by part number, and the seal sizes must match the cylinder's rod and bore diameters.

Fitting

Remove the old seals from their grooves with a blunt tool and clean the grooves. Fit the new ones the right way round without twisting and oil them with clean hydraulic oil; ease the piston and rod carefully into the barrel.
