A twin gear pump consists of two pump sections on a common shaft and feeds the loader, backhoe and steering functions of a backhoe loader. It is driven by the engine and its flow is proportional to engine speed. As the tooth tips and side plates wear, internal leakage grows: the arms slow, force drops under load and the oil heats up. Dirty oil, a blocked suction strainer and low oil level are the usual causes of failure, and a new pump soon wears too unless they are cleared. Fitting
