With low oil pressure, the relief valve is a cheap, accessible part to check before the oil pump and bearings. A plunger or ball that does not seat fully is often caused by debris and dirt in the oil. The valve body is cast aluminium, and its mating face is sealed with a gasket. The set pressure is specified for the engine, and a valve with a different setting upsets bearing lubrication. The aftermarket valve has the same mounting dimensions and set pressure as the original and fits with the same bolts and gasket.
