Oil pressure valve Perkins 1006 4138A034 is an aftermarket part for the Perkins-engined JCB machines. According to the product card, this is the oil pressure valve of the Perkins 1006 engine; the card also lists JCB 02/200261.

The relief valve limits oil pressure at the outlet of the engine oil pump: when pressure exceeds its setting, it opens and returns the excess oil to the pump inlet or the sump. This protects the filter, seals and oil cooler from over-pressure on cold, thick oil. A valve stuck open gives low oil pressure and a lit oil lamp, and one stuck shut gives excessive pressure on cold starts. The valve is used on Perkins 1004 series engines; the Perkins number is 4138A054. The valve is mounted on or near the oil pump and, together with the pump, sets the pressure in the engine lubrication system. When the sender shows low pressure, confirm it first with a mechanical gauge, then remove the valve and check the plunger moves freely and the spring is not broken. The valve is supplied new.
