The pipe is chosen by part number for the engine type and position: high-pressure pipes have their own bends and length for each cylinder and are not interchangeable. The ends of high-pressure pipes seal by being compressed in the fitting, so a pipe that has been removed many times eventually starts to leak and should be renewed. The retaining clamps are checked when a pipe is changed. Even a small crack in a low-pressure pipe lets air in on suction and makes the engine run unevenly.

Fitting

Before the change, stop the engine and let the fuel system cool; on common rail systems, wait for the pressure to drop. Undo the fittings while holding them with a backup spanner. Start the new pipe by hand at both ends, then tighten the nuts to the specified torque and fit the clamps. After bleeding, run the engine and check the joints for leaks. On the first run after fitting, check the joints once more after the engine has warmed up.
