The pump is chosen by part number for the engine type and version: pumps for different power versions of the same engine are set differently, and the wrong pump changes power, smoke and fuel use. Fitting

Before removing the pump, turn the engine until the timing marks line up and mark the position of the pump gear. Cap the fuel line ends at once. Fit the new pump in the timed position following the engine maker's instructions and tighten the connections with new seals to the specified torque. Then bleed the fuel system, without cranking for long on the first start. Once the engine runs, check for fuel leaks, idle, smoke and power, and read the fault codes on electronic systems. In the first hours, keep an eye on fuel consumption and exhaust smoke.
