For the JCB machines: fuel filter 320/A7227, a genuine JCB part.
The fuel filter traps particles in diesel fuel, protecting the injection pump and injectors. The fuel systems of modern diesels work to very fine tolerances, and even a particle of a few microns that passes the filter can wear pump plungers and injector nozzles. A clogged filter makes the engine lose power under load, run roughly or stop. The filter is changed at the interval the engine maker specifies and after any doubtful fuelling. The filter comes new.

Compatibility
According to sources, 320/A7227 is a water-separating fuel filter used on JCB 535-95, 536-95 and 541-70 telehandlers, JS145W and JS220 excavators and 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders. The catalogue also has the aftermarket version of this part. Other parts are in Genuine JCB filters.
Fitting
Before the change, stop the engine and clean around the filter. Remove the old filter and wipe the seal face of the filter head. Lightly lubricate the new filter's seal with clean fuel, screw the filter on by hand and, once the seal touches, tighten it by the amount the maker specifies; overtightening with a wrench crushes the seal and makes removal hard. Then bleed the fuel system with the hand primer or the method in the manual, start the engine and check for leaks. Clean hands and tools matter when changing a fuel filter, since dirt on the filter head can reach the clean side of the new filter. Do not overtighten the bleed screw on the filter head.
