Air filter, outer 580/12020 is an aftermarket part for the JCB JS crawler excavators. This element is the outer (primary) element of a two-stage air filter.

The condition of the air filter affects not only engine power but also turbocharger life: as the filter clogs, intake vacuum rises and oil can seep past the turbo seals. The pre-cleaner (cyclone) and dust valve on the housing separate coarse dust before it reaches the element, and keeping them clean and sound extends filter life. The element must not be crushed or get wet in storage or transport. The element comes new.

According to sources, elements 580/12020 (outer) and 580/12021 (inner) are used together on JCB JS200, JS220, JS240 and JS260 excavators and 411, 412S and 416 wheeled loaders. Fitting

After fitting, check the hose clamps and joints in the intake: even a small leak after the filter lets unfiltered air go straight into the engine. Reset the restriction indicator if fitted. Record the date and engine hours of the change in the service log.
