Timing case cover plate 02/201852 is an aftermarket part for the Perkins engine. The card also lists 30716M181.

The timing cover encloses the timing gears at the front of the engine, forming an oil-tight chamber, and carries the front crankshaft seal and mounting points for some ancillaries. The cast aluminium cover can crack from a knock or overtightening, and a cracked cover leaks oil. Hole and mounting patterns differ between engine versions. With the cover off, the gear train condition, backlash and timing marks can be checked. Burrs or corrosion on the cover and block faces are cleaned off, since a damaged face can leak even with a new gasket. The cover is cast aluminium and its bolts must be tightened to the specified torque. The cover is supplied new; the front seal and gasket are chosen separately. The cover is light to handle.
