Piston ring set 02/201504 Perkins AK standard, aftermarket, option 1

For the Perkins 1000 series (AK) engine: piston ring set 02/201504, standard, an aftermarket part. The card also lists 4181A033, 985-212.

The ring size follows the bore: standard rings for an unmachined bore, oversize rings for a machined one. Rings stop working when they stick, break or their end gap grows. The bore is always checked when rings are changed: in a worn bore new rings soon start burning oil again. After a ring change, watch the oil consumption and exhaust smoke during the first working hours. The top face of the compression rings is marked; a ring fitted upside down pumps oil into the combustion chamber.

The part is listed for JCB backhoe loaders with Perkins engines. With Perkins number 4181A033 the set is used on 1000, 1004 and 1006 series engines; it has three rings per piston. Fitting

Do not mix up the rings: the top, second and oil rings have different profiles. Place the oil ring expander with its joint opposite the ring gap. During running-in, vary the engine speed and avoid heavy load.
