Connecting rod 02/202294 is an aftermarket part for the Perkins 1104 series engine. The card also lists 4115C313, 915-811.

The connecting rod links the piston to the crankshaft and turns combustion force into rotation. The small end holds the gudgeon pin bush and the big end has a split cap and the big-end bearings. A bent rod lowers compression and knocks in the cylinder, while a damaged big-end bore leads to spun bearings; after a spun bearing the rod must always be checked. When selecting, compare the part number and the casting marks on the old rod. When a rod is replaced, the big-end bearings and rod bolts are renewed as well. The engine has four rods, and each is numbered and fitted to its own cylinder. The part number is marked on the rod body. The rod is forged steel. Cap and body are machined together. The rod is supplied new. Compare the rod weight with the others.

Fitting

Fit the cap to its own rod by the marks, with the numbers on cap and rod on the same side. After assembly, turn the crankshaft by hand to check that it rotates freely. Renew the rod nuts or bolts. Fit the rods in order and by their marks.
