For the Perkins 1000 series (AK) engine: camshaft 332/G1935, a genuine JCB part. The card also lists 3141D133, 10000-47224.
Each cam lobe opens one valve: lobe height sets how far the valve opens and the profile how long it stays open. With worn lobes power and pulling will not return however the valves are adjusted. Lobe height can be measured with a micrometer and compared with a new shaft. The camshaft gear meshes with the crankshaft gear and turns the camshaft at half crankshaft speed. A chipped or worn tooth can upset the timing, so the gear is checked together with the shaft. Because different camshaft versions are used for different fuel systems within one engine family, give the engine serial number when ordering. When the shaft is replaced, a clean oil pump and clean passages matter so that the new lobes are oiled from the first hours. A key or dowel fixes the gear position on the shaft.
