Valve bridge 320/03632 JCB Dieselmax, genuine

Valve bridge 320/03632 is a genuine JCB part for the JCB Dieselmax 444 engine.

The valve bridge lets a single rocker arm open two valves of the same kind (two inlet or two exhaust) in each cylinder. The rocker presses on the middle of the bridge, which spreads the force evenly to both valves. Wear on its contact faces prevents correct valve clearance setting and makes the valves open unevenly. The Dieselmax has four valves per cylinder, so each cylinder uses one inlet and one exhaust bridge. The ends that touch the valves and the centre face the rocker presses on are hardened. Stretching oil change intervals speeds up wear of these faces. Each end of the bridge has a recess that locates on a valve stem. There are twice as many bridges as cylinders.

Fitting

Bridges can be replaced as a set when worn. After assembly, start the engine and check there is no ticking from the valve gear. Mark the bridges by cylinder and by inlet or exhaust side before removing them. Adjust the valve clearance with the engine cold.
