Oil pump 332/G1855 JCB Dieselmax, aftermarket

Oil pump 332/G1855 is an aftermarket part for the JCB Dieselmax 444 engine.

The oil pump draws oil from the sump and pushes it through the filter into the main oil gallery; the main and big-end bearings, camshaft, turbo and rocker gear are all lubricated by it. The pump is gear-driven from the crankshaft. A worn pump gives low oil pressure, especially at idle on a hot engine, and the oil lamp comes on; bearings and turbo are soon damaged. The pressure relief valve on the pump stops pressure rising too high on cold, thick oil. If the valve sticks open, pressure drops; if it sticks shut, the filter and seals are overloaded. The pump is the key part of the lubrication system; at an overhaul it is measured or replaced. The pump body is aluminium or cast iron. The pump has a cast body. The pump is supplied new. Renew the pick-up gasket when the pump is replaced. The pump builds pressure in line with engine speed.

Fitting

The pump is reached with the sump removed, which is also a chance to inspect the big-end and main bearings. After the new pump is fitted, check that its gear meshes correctly with the crankshaft gear. Refit the sump with a new gasket and change the engine oil. Fit the pump bolts with thread locker or new washers.
