Engine mount 331/40347 JCB Dieselmax SB, aftermarket

Engine mount 331/40347 is an aftermarket part for the JCB Dieselmax 444 (SB) engine. The card also lists 332/P7213.

The engine mount is a rubber-to-metal element that fixes the engine to the frame and damps vibration. A hardened, torn or separated mount passes vibration to the cab, strains the exhaust and hose connections and lets the engine shift. Mounts deteriorate faster in contact with oil and fuel. When one mount fails, check the others. Mount condition is judged by watching the engine move at idle and when revving up; excessive movement points to a failed mount. Rubber separating from the metal and cracks are visible on inspection. Running on with a failed mount can damage the radiator, fan and exhaust connections. The mount is supplied new, with fixing bolts chosen separately. The mount is made of rubber and steel. Under load the mounts settle over time and lose height.

Fitting

Take the weight of the engine with suitable lifting gear, remove the old mount and fit the new one the right way round. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque and, once the engine is lowered, check the exhaust and hoses for strain.
