Jump leads 700A, aftermarket

Jump leads 700A is an aftermarket part for the construction machinery, trucks and other vehicles.

Jump leads are used to start a machine with a flat battery from another vehicle or an external battery. This set is rated for 700 amps, and the heavy-gauge cables carry the high starter current without a large voltage drop. The insulated clamps are colour-coded, red for positive and black for negative. Thin cables get hot and are not enough to start a diesel in cold weather. The leads should be long enough to connect even when the two vehicles cannot be parked side by side.

Fitting

Connection order: first the positive lead to the positive terminals of both batteries, then the negative lead to the negative of the good battery and to an earth point on the engine block of the machine being started. Never connect 12-volt and 24-volt systems together. After the engine starts, remove the leads in reverse order. When not in use, keep the leads dry in their bag, and never use leads with damaged insulation. Check that the clamp springs are sound and the clamps grip the terminals firmly.
