For the Caterpillar machines: temperature sender 235-1790, an aftermarket part.
A cold start sender detects engine temperature and, while the engine is cold, brings in the fuel pump's cold-start device (for example extra injection advance or extra fuel), switching it off as the engine warms up. According to sources, senders of this type are used on JCB machines with Perkins engines. A faulty cold start sender can cause hard starting in cold weather, white smoke or rough running after warm-up. Change the sender with a cold engine and top up the coolant afterwards. When the cold start sender fails, the cold-start device can stay active even with a warm engine, which raises fuel use and exhaust smoke. Keep the sender connector away from hot engine surfaces.

Compatibility
According to sources, Caterpillar number 235-1790 is among the equivalents of the Perkins 2848A127 and JCB 716/30173 cold start temperature switch. Other parts are in Sensors.
Fitting
After fitting, secure the harness with ties so it does not touch moving parts or hot surfaces, since a chafed wire loses its insulation and causes a short circuit.
