Alternator 335/E0898 JCB JS205, aftermarket

Alternator 335/E0898 is an aftermarket part for the Cummins-engined JCB JS205 excavator.

The alternator charges the battery while the engine runs and feeds the machine's electrical consumers. The rotor, driven by the engine belt, induces alternating current in the stator windings; the diode bridge rectifies it and the voltage regulator keeps the output voltage steady. A faulty alternator lights the charge warning lamp, lets the battery run flat, makes the lights dim or overcharges the battery so it gasses. Before replacing the alternator, check the belt tension, battery condition and cable connections, and measure the charging voltage at the battery terminals with the engine running. If the charge lamp stays on with the engine running, check the alternator's excitation circuit as well.

According to the product card, a 24 V, 75 A alternator with L-W terminals; the card also gives Cummins numbers 5263218 and 5263220. Other parts are in Alternators.

Fitting

Never disconnect the battery with the engine running and the alternator connected, since a voltage surge can damage the alternator diodes and electronic units. Disconnect the battery and alternator before any welding.
